Learning Updates for Jan.20-24

The weather is finally warmer this week, which means we will have our outdoor recess back!

CNY celebration is coming too!! J This week is going to be so busy and fun!


Reminders提醒:

Chinese New Year performance dress rehearsal is on Monday, Jan.20 @ 12:30 in our gym. You are more than welcome to join us!

Chinese New Year Celebration is on Jan 23 @ 6:30 pm @Harold Panabaker School. (If you need location/parking information, please contact me ASAP)

Chinese New Year Activity Day- Friday, Jan 24 all morning!

Chinese New Year Dumpling making day: On the week of Jan. 27 (date to be announced soon), both green and yellow groups will be having a chance to make dumplings with Ms.Fan and Mrs.Yaunish.

Mandarin Home Reading: Mandarin Home reading book bag is coming home after CNY celebration. More information will be sent home soon.

This week, we will continue to learn food words, and talk about food words related to Chinese New Year. Below are the words we are learning this month.

Grade 1s will continue to learn Pinyin this week, we will learn all of the 6 vowels of pinyin. (If you do not know what Pinyin is, please check this post http://blog.tutorming.com/mandarin-chinese-learning-tips/what-is-pinyin)

Students will also be learning about different kinds of food in Mandarin, and working on developing their writing skills with sentence starter “()()(huan)(chī)/ ()()(huan)() (I like to eat/I like to drink..)”.


Grade 2s will be reviewing knowledge of Pinyin from last year, we will be reviewing the pronunciations of pinyin consonants and vowels, students will make pinyin syllables.

Students will be reviewing and learning food words this week, we will focus on learning all vocabularies about fruits, description words to describe food, and also some traditional Chinese New Year related food vocabularies. We will start writing longer, descriptive sentences.


Math数学:
Grade 1: This week, grade 1s will continue reviewing what we have learned before the break, students will be reviewing “skip-counting with 5s and 10s, representing numbers using tallies, pictures, ten-frame, even and odd” We will also start learning to use 100 chart to identify if a number is big or small, and if a simple number sequence is ascending or descending (increasing or decreasing).

Grade 2: This week, grade 2s will continue reviewing what we have learned before the break, students will be reviewing “skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, double-digit number representation using base ten blocks, tallies.” We will also start learning about ordinal numbers (first-tenth), compare the ordinal position, students will be able to identify if a number sequence is ascending or descending.



Science科学:

Grade 2s will continue learning about different types of boats and gathering items to build their boat.
